
American Academy of Art
The American Academy of Art has been training and guiding great artists since 1923. Our programs are based on traditional styles, techniques, and mediums while incorporating new technologies such as web design and 3D animation.
The Academy is located on Michigan Avenue in Chicago's art and education district. Our campus includes the Bill L. Parks Gallery, with revolving exhibitions. Our Irving Shapiro Library is top-notch, and our Career Services office assists graduates in seeking employment.
The American Academy of Art offers the following
Bachelor degrees:
- BFA in 3-D Modeling/Animation - Create 3-D models and animation using computers.
- BFA in Design - Develop the skills you need to be a successful graphic designer. Students work on team projects to make package designs, posters and logos in preparation for their careers.
- BFA in Illustration - Students in the Illustration program will find their own style while creating a professional-level portfolio with a consistent style. Graduates are prepared to confront a variety of illustration styles, including advertising/marketing, editorial, and children's book illustration.
- BFA in Illustration with a Specialization in Digital Illustration - Illustration students who specialize in digital illustration produce artwork using a variety of different software for a range of applications including publishing work, advertising art and children's books.
- BFA in Life Drawing - Artists in this program learn how to accurately portray human figures. Portraiture and drapery studies are also covered.
- BFA in Multimedia/Web Design - The final goal of this program is for students to use design principles from all types of media along with web authoring tools to produce practical web production projects. The social, legal and historical issues surrounding media are also discussed.
- BFA in Painting with a Specialization in Oil Painting - Students in the Painting program use traditional oil painting techniques, with special attention devoted to painting human figures. Students will build a consistent, professional-quality portfolio.
- BFA in Painting with a Specialization in Watercolor Painting - The Watercolor program focuses on techniques and skill development in this unique medium. Students are to produce a professional-quality portfolio of their work.
- BFA in Photography - The Academy's Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography degree prepares graduates to work in the professional photography field with a diverse set of skills, knowledge and practices that will enable them to create meaningful images for today's society.
